Governor Dannel P. Malloy on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 named Connecticut social-services veteran Amy Porter as the director of the newly merged state Bureau of Rehabilitative Services.

The agency was formed last year consolidation from the consolidation of the Department of Social Services (DSS) Bureau of Rehabilitation Services, the State Board of Education & Services for the Blind, the Commission on Deaf & Hearing Impaired, and portions of the Workers’ Compensation Commission and Department of Motor Vehicles.  DSS Commissioner Rod Bremby had been the new agency’s acting director since its creation last July.

Porter, of Coventry, has twenty years of experience in the field of rehabilitation, currently heads the new office’s Rehabilitation Services Division.  Prior to that, she was director of the DSS Bureau of Rehabilitation Services, which is now the Rehabilitation Services Division and is one of the state offices consolidated into this new agency.  She has a doctorate in rehabilitation counseling from Boston University and is a certified rehabilitation counselor.

Ms. Amy Porter, Heart-felt Congratulations from CCOSD Board and Representatives!  We appreciated her time to attend and explain about CDHI and related concerns about no leadership in the new Bureau of Rehabilitative Services the CCOSD meeting on December 5, 2011.  She is eager to improve her sign language for better communication with deaf community.  In addition, CCOSD wants to express its appreciation to Governor Malloy for appointing Ms. Porter.
