Job Description:
FULL-TIME STAFF ASSISTANT (PROJECT COORDINATOR): Gallaudet University Regional Center at Northern Essex Community College: (Twelve-month, MCCC unit position.) This position is grant funded on an annual basis by Gallaudet University’s College of Professional Studies and Outreach. Gallaudet University Regional Center serves the Northeast states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
As necessary on a periodic basis, the individual appointed to this position will be expected to work during evening and/or weekends to accommodate the requirements of the work area. Anticipated start date: November, 2009.
Responsibilities:
In collaboration with Gallaudet University’s College of Professional Studies and Outreach, the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center and other Gallaudet University departments, initiate, plan, organize and implement projects across the region in support of Gallaudet University’s strategic plan, including conferences, training, and courses to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing people, their families, and professionals who serve them. Coordinate identified projects through a complete development cycle from project definition to development, dissemination, and evaluation. Coordinate the process for determining project goals, budgets, and timelines, in collaboration with other stakeholders. Prepare project communications including regular status updates.
Remain abreast of current trends and issues in education, rehabilitation, culture, and linguistics as they relate to deaf and hard of hearing individuals. Develop professional networks across the region. Actively pursue collaborative opportunities, identify and respond to training needs and requests throughout the region. Be proactive in creating new opportunities for Gallaudet University to have an impact in the region. Handle multiple projects simultaneously. Support the GURC’s public relations role, representing Gallaudet University and providing information about the academic, service and support programs at the University as well as all training, publications, outreach, partnership, enrollment, and recruitment initiatives. Assist with other GURC activities as assigned, including the Regional Academic Bowl and Shared Reading initiatives.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (deaf education, rehabilitation or related field)
required. Master’s degree in related field preferred. Two years of work experience in deaf education, rehabilitation or related field, Fluency in sign language required. Demonstrated ability to form partnerships and working collaborations with a diverse group of people including teachers, educational professionals, parents, and members of the deaf community. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively across great distances through a variety of media. Demonstrated ability to work independently, self-motivate and initiate and manage programs. Communicate clearly and concisely, in writing. Computer skills sufficient to manage workload efficiently, produce professional materials, and manage data. Ability to be flexible with work schedule. Willing to travel extensively throughout the region. Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to drive a motor vehicle.

Additional Information:
The approximate salary range for this position is $36,560 – $43,000 with full fringe benefits. Commensurate with experience and background
